From classic to floral to spicy, they’ve created eight unique takes on the classic Derby Day drink for you to try this weekend.

Mint Julep Recipes for Derby Day

#1 Derby Day Mango Julep

The Julep is a uniquely American cocktail that gained popularity internationally around the end of the 19th century. It should be served bracingly cold, probably due to the hot American summers, and was originally made with cognac and peach brandy. It wasn’t until the 1930s that we start to see the popularized version today made with Bourbon. Mango and peach have similar flavor profiles and the Mango Syrup in this Derby Day Mango Julep is a little nod to this cocktail’s illustrious past! - Jeff, Beverage Innovation Director

“Nothing beats a classic Mint Julep. For my go-to recipe, I like to use Monin Pure Cane Syrup and Mint Concentrated Flavor for a full-bodied mint flavor that adds brightness to those sweet bourbon notes. This drink is light and refreshing, exactly how a Mint Julep should be! ” - Chelsea, Innovation Coordinator

#6 Spiced Brown Sugar Julep

Spiced Brown Sugar Syrup gives this julep a ‘run’ for its money, lending spiced notes along with cooling mint. The Spiced Brown Sugar Julep’s almost velvety texture makes this mint julep a national treasure, and odds are on this becoming your new favorite cocktail.” – Angela, Beverage Innovation Director

#7 Run for the Roses

“Served properly, a Julep should be in a silver or metal chalice filled with shaved or crushed ice, and the outside of the cup should be refreshingly frosty. Fun fact, a proper Julep cup is reverse tapered, and the lip at the top is intended to help rescue a slipping drink! In my Run for the Roses Julep, Monin Rose Syrup is incorporated as a nod to the event which helped to immortalize this cocktail into American (and international) culture.” Jeff, Beverage Innovation Director
