We all must play a part in protecting our ecosystems. Being protective of our natural resources and mindful of our environmental “footprint” is a core value at Monin.
Our production plants are designed to limit water and energy consumption while our teams constantly explore innovative waste-reduction and packaging solutions.
Here are some ways we are working to be responsible stewards of our environment:
Dedicated to Preserving Bee Colonies
We recycle! In 2008, Monin introduced the “Syrup-to-Bees” program, donating syrup overages from our Clearwater facility to help feed threatened pollinators around Florida. Syrup donations feed bees during shortages of nectar-producing flowers. Our Sparks, Nevada, production facility also participates in our "Syrup-to-Bees" program, helping to expand our bee-feeding program out west! This important initiative has fed hundreds of millions of bees over the years, resulting in a nationwide network of bee farmers and preserving bee populations around the country.
Most recently, Monin partnered with Bee Downtown, a company dedicated to preserving honeybee populations. Through their Corporate Hive Program, Bee Downtown installs apiaries on corporate campuses, including Monin’s Clearwater headquarters. The new on-site Monin bees will pollinate a three-mile radius from the hives, impacting 18,000 acres of surrounding local land. Monin employees also have unique opportunities to engage with bees, agriculture, their workplace, and each other through hive tours, honey tastings, beekeeping classes, and more.
Clean In-Place (CIP) System /Wastewater Treatment Process
Our environmental efforts include responsible manufacturing practices, such as reducing water usage in production facilities through ongoing assessment and improvement projects. At our Clearwater plant, we also upgraded our CIP system to ensure smooth integration with the city’s wastewater system. Before the water leaves the plant, a chiller reduces the temperature to 100-110°F, and the pH is adjusted as needed, helping to streamline the water treatment process. Our plant in Sparks, Nevada, has an in-house wastewater facility to help treat water and reduce our environmental impact on local waterways.
Responsible Recycling
Our packaging boxes are 100% recyclable and consist of approximately 30% recycled content. The boxes are printed with a biodegradable water-based ink that contains zero pollutants. We use molded pulp packaging inserts and absolutely no Styrofoam to ship our products. Our in-house label printer utilizes paper that is Elemental Chlorine Free and certified by the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council), two of the most important environmental qualities a paper can have. All Monin products are packaged in BPA free bottles.
